So a little bit of a change of pace here- Big Tiny Steps was graciously nominated for the Blogger Recognition award by Jessica from Military Spouse on a Mission! If you haven’t seen her site already, check it out.

This was very exciting for me, as I have only been at this for about a month and have been working hard on trying to network and connect with other blogs and bloggers. This is a great way for us to connect while validating each other’s hard work.

Once nominated there are a few steps you have to take to pay it forward. These are to:

  • Include who nominated you and a link to their blog.
  • Nominate 15 other bloggers for the award.
  • Write a story about how and why you started your blog.
  • Give new bloggers two pieces of advice.
  • Provide a comment on each nominees blog to tell them about the award with a link to this post.

Why I Started this Blog

I started my blog in an attempt to reach people who were struggling like me. People who felt like there must be more to life than just going to and from work, watching TV and missing out on life. People who wanted to reclaim their health without any pills, promises and other BS.
My husband and I started feeling like maybe a reconnect with nature what what we needed. Around this time we also started to become more educated about commercially produced food. We became interested in growing our own food and supporting local farming. This is when we started our aquaponics system. We also started trying to find other ways of becoming more sustainable in our day to day life, and began to learn about homesteading activities we can do in a small space.

Because of my overall interest in health and mental well being, I also blog about my weight loss journey and the incredible impacts that eating healthy has had on my life. My blog also features information about taking care of your mental health and living a simpler, debt free lifestyle.

That is why I use three words to describe this blogs purpose-Simplify, Reconnect, and Take Care!

Advice for New Bloggers

1. Cut through the Noise– So much out there is about how much money you can make off this and that for your blog. It seems like 50 % of blogs are blogs that blog about blogging (see what I did there?). Just be authentic and don’t forget why you started. Don’t forget about your vision and keep realistic. If your blog is a fun hobby and not earning you income that is OK! The important thing is to enjoy what you spend your time doing. And if you make some money along the way, well, that’s just an added bonus!

2. Connect with others and put out as much as you get- Other people are such an important resource. Building connections can be just as important as making content. I have already had the pleasure of collaborating with some fantastic ladies and it has been a great learning experience. If you have the opportunity to help out another little guy like yourself, make sure to take it!

So although I have had the chance to see so many fantastic new blogs, the ones that I am nominating this time are:

Shiny Trinkets

Ciao Chloe

Booty and Beauty Blog

The Careers Emporium

Darkk Horse Travel

Frugal Southern Living

Once again I want to thank Jessica for nominating me, and for everyone in the blogging community that has welcomed and supported me!
